In May 2018 The Chris Evans Breakfast Show team broadcast a special show, Chris Evans live in Windsor for the Royal Wedding.
My colleague Meera and I were put in charge of leading the project, and were given two months to organise this live outside broadcast. Given the scale of the event and the security around the Royal Family, we were unable to give much away on air beforehand. Only on the day itself could Chris reveal that we were in Alexandra Gardens, a stones throw from Windsor Castle and St George’s Chapel where the couple were getting married.
With three and a half hours to fill, we booked three live acts to perform on the bandstand (plus a temporary one put up next to it). The Shires, Rae Morris and Ricky Wilson from The Kaiser Chiefs all came and performed live. Plus we were joined by Windsor’s Town Crier, local cake-makers, an etiquette expert live in New York and many more – plus hundreds of listeners who had amassed in the park to watch the wedding on big screens. Amongst other responsibilities I had my camera with me and took plenty of shots of Chris, the crowd and our guests.
It was undoubtedly one of my favourite outside broadcasts on the Breakfast Show.
