My name’s Matt and I’m a radio producer with experience working on award-winning programmes based in London.
I am currently an Assistant Producer with BBC Audio, working for BBC Radio 6 Music, predominately on Steve Lamacq’s afternoon programme. I also make documentaries and one-off specials for BBC Radio 2, such as Quentin Tarantino’s Movie Mixtape (Aug 2019) – a documentary in which the acclaimed filmmaker took movie critic James King through the music he’s used in his films – and The Twelve Films Of Christmas (Dec 2020) – celebrating the top twelve Christmas films of all time as voted for by our listeners, also presented by movie critic James King.
In January 2019 I launched two brand new shows on the network, presented by Sara Cox & Jo Whiley and my highlights included producing live outside broadcasts at Hay Festival and the Edinburgh Festivals. Before that I spent three years working on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 as an Assistant Producer, at the time the biggest radio show in Europe, with over 9.5 million people listening. In that time we were awarded an Audio & Radio Industry Award (ARIA) for Best National Music Breakfast Show. The highlights included taking the show to Windsor for Harry & Meghan’s wedding, to The Chelsea Flower Show and many more.
In September 2017 I was thrilled to be named by the Radio Academy in their 30 Under 30 list for 2017 – their “annual search for the brightest young talent from across the radio and audio industry”. All 30 of us were invited up to the Radio Academy’s ARIAS (Audio & Radio Industry Awards) in Leeds on the 19th October to receive our awards. I’ve also been fortunate to win some other awards in my career so far.
In November 2016 I produced my first BBC programme – Dominic Cooper’s Day Off– a one-off special for BBC Radio 2 on 1980s movie soundtracks presented by film and stage actor Dominic Cooper.
Before joining BBC Radio 2 I was a freelancer, working on a wide range of radio and social media projects. My clients included BBC Radio 6 Music, Somethin’ Else, BBC Radio London, Wise Buddah and more.
